This world is not my home, I’m just a passing through
My treasures are laid up, somewhere beyond the blue,
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

Oh Lord you know, I have no friend like you
If heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

~ Jim Reeves

This was the song that rushed to my mind when I saw the writing prompt today. As much as I’d like to write about my own home, I am reminded that the world is not my eternal home. I have a Father who is preparing a place for me in heaven.

Because He loves me, and I, Him… I have this hope that I’ll get to heaven one day and live with Him eternally. Oh heaven seems glorious from what I’ve read in the Bible. I can’t wait to get there someday.

But until then, I’ve got some unfinished business down here – in my earthly home. I believe I have a calling to make my home a little piece of heaven on earth.

A place where God’s presence dwells.

A place where marriage honors God.

A place where children are taught to love and follow God.

A place where friends (and at times, strangers) are encouraged.

A place where people who love God pray and work to share that love with others who haven’t experienced it.

God’s desire is for all of us to enter His home, and ours in heaven. Can we cultivate that same desire in our hearts? Can we get to work now, to share the hope of heaven to those who haven’t heard of it yet?

  1. Visting from the Five Minute Friday! I had this song going through my mind tonight as well. So thankful that I have a home awaiting me in Heaven!

  2. I love this post! Very encouraging 🙂 Yes, while we are here, making our earthly homes the best loving, caring, encouraging places they can be is a wonderful goal. Visiting from FMF 🙂
